The Team
The creator
Joost Van Veldhuizen
Joost is a man of nature, designer, and creative distiller, known for his brand VanJoost, which creates minimalist furniture. His strength lies in quality, simplicity, and innovation, while everything he creates has the appearance of having always existed. This vision is also reflected in Kegel, his own recipe: a gin made with pine cones from the Veluwe. Joost was asked to devise a sustainable solution for the preservation of the Rijkszaadeest, and Kegel perfectly aligns with this request. It feels as if distilling has always been done this way. Joost likes things that make sense, and this is one such initiative. Everything aligns: the recycled green bottle, the handmade natural cork, the preservation of culture, and the enhancement of nature. And let’s not forget: the cone in the bottle!
I’m Joost, and I like to do things that make sense. And this is one of those stories that just makes sense.
The distiller
Jack Bunt
Jack Bunt, his name says it all: Jack is a true distiller. His passion for the craft and extensive knowledge make him an authority in distilling. At Kegel, Jack is not only responsible for distilling our spirits, but he’s also the driving force behind our workshops and tastings. When you join one of our workshops, Jack doesn’t just bring the fun and enthusiasm; he also shares his expertise and teaches you the tricks of the trade.
The volunteers
Together on the Veluwe
Our volunteers play a crucial role in the preservation of the Rijkszaadeest. They not only maintain the area but also give tours and share their knowledge about this unique cultural heritage. Thanks to their dedication, the Rijkszaadeest remains a special place for the preservation of both culture and nature. Would you like to become a volunteer with the “Friends of the Rijkszaadeest”?
